American singer and songwriter Oliver Tree was aboard a helicopter with four other people when it was involved in a fatal midair collision with another aircraft. Both helicopters crashed over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Authorities have confirmed that all passengers aboard perished, although they have not yet been able to formally identify the bodies.
Tree, who achieved international fame with the viral hit singles “Life Goes On” in 2021 and “Miss You” in 2022, was in Brazil as part of his first world tour, having just performed on stage in São Paulo on June 6. Eight days following his performance, Tree was involved in a fatal midair collision over the city of Rio de Janeiro, losing his life on June 14 alongside five others.
Brazilian aviation authorities confirmed Tree’s name was on the passenger manifest provided to them, along with Lucas Vignale, an Argentine film director, and Gaspar Diaz, an Argentine internet personality. Firefighters responding to the scene confirmed five people were aboard the first helicopter, and one person was aboard the second helicopter involved in the collision. Authorities have stated that an investigation to determine the cause of the crash has been launched, and details regarding the accident will be revealed to the public after the investigation concludes.
