President Trump's Official State Visit

LIVEChina, US Face Off at High-Stakes Summit

BEIJING – U.S. President Donald Trump is heading to China for a state visit aimed at keeping a fragile trade truce on track. The two nations remain locked in disputes over technology, supply chains, Taiwan, and global security. Trump will be meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping for bi-lateral talks, along with ceremonial events meant to project stability between the world’s two largest economies.

The trip marks Trump’s first visit to China since 2017 and only the third U.S. state visit to China in 30 years. The meetup comes after months of tension between the two governments. Trade is expected to dominate the agenda, including tarriffs, agricultural purchases and the future of a broader economic rivalry that continues to shape global markets.

Beijing: Trump-Xi Summit at Temple of Heaven Concludes with Symbolic Tour

Donald Trump and Xi Jinping have wrapped up a joint visit to one of Beijing’s most iconic landmarks, the Temple of Heaven, a 6th-century UNESCO-listed complex that served as a sacred site where China’s imperial rulers once performed harvest rituals.

The two leaders strolled the historic grounds together after concluding formal bilateral discussions at the Great Hall of the People. The excursion followed substantive talks covering a range of contentious issues, including tariff policy, Taiwan, technology export controls, and access to each other’s markets. They also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, the Ukraine crisis, and the Korean Peninsula.

The temple tour effectively marked the close of the day’s formal public engagements, with a state dinner anticipated later in the evening as the summit heads into its next phase.

Beijing: The Xi-Trump meeting has now concluded.

The talks lasted just about 2 hours and 15 minutes, per the White House and Chinese state media. The discussion revolved around trade, Taiwan and other differences in the U.S.-China relationship.

In his opening remarks, Xi leaned into a message of cooperation, saying the world had “arrived at a new crossroads” and that the US and China “should be partners rather than opponents.” He cited the “Thucydides Trap” in warning Trump that the U.S. and China must avoid conflict as tensions rise.

Xi raised the sensitive topic of Taiwan, emphasising that “the Taiwan question is the most important issue in China-US relations” and warning that mishandling it could lead the two countries to “clash or even conflict.”
