Kuwait Civil Defense responding to drone and missiles

Kuwait said on X its air defense systems were actively responding to hostile missile and drone threats, urging residents to follow official safety instructions as explosions were reported during what appeared to be a new round of aerial activity over the Gulf.

The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces said any explosions heard by the public were the result of air defense systems intercepting hostile targets. In a public statement, the military said Kuwaiti air defenses were “currently responding to hostile missile and drone threats,” language similar to previous alerts issued during the wider regional conflict. Kuwait has repeatedly reported aerial threats in recent months, including hostile drones detected in its airspace and previous attacks linked to the broader Iran conflict.

Messages and images circulating from Omidiyeh, in Iran’s Khuzestan province, indicated that around 5:50 a.m. local time, a missile launch and a reported strike on a launcher were observed. The reported activity occurred around the same time sirens were heard in Kuwait, according to initial accounts.

The reports could not be independently verified, and Kuwaiti authorities did not immediately identify the origin of the threats or confirm whether any missiles or drones struck Kuwaiti territory.

The alert comes as Kuwait remains one of the most sensitive flashpoints in the Gulf. The country hosts key U.S. military facilities, including Camp Arifjan and Ali Al Salem Air Base, both central to American operations in the region. The U.S. State Department said in 2025 that about 13,500 U.S. forces were based in Kuwait, primarily at those two sites.

Kuwait was also the site of the first American deaths in Operation Epic Fury, when six U.S. soldiers were killed at Port Shuaiba on March 1.

The latest warning quickly drew attention because of Kuwait’s proximity to Iran and Iraq, as well as the presence of U.S. forces and logistics hubs inside the country. Camp Arifjan serves as a major U.S. Army installation, while Ali Al Salem Air Base supports U.S. and Kuwaiti air operations.

No casualties or damage were immediately reported. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps took responsibility.
