Karoline Leavitt will leave White House press secretary role at end of August

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will leave her post at the end of August, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday, ending her tenure as the administration’s chief public spokesperson.

Trump announced the departure in a Truth Social post, saying Leavitt made the decision so she could spend more time with her young children and family.

“Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors,” Trump said, adding that she would remain an influential Republican voice as the party works to win the November midterm elections.

Trump praised Leavitt’s work in the White House and during his 2024 presidential campaign. He did not name a successor in the announcement.

Leavitt has served as White House press secretary since Trump returned to office in January 2025. She became the youngest person in U.S. history to hold the position.

Her departure will mark another change in the White House communications operation as the administration heads into the final stretch before the 2026 midterms. Several communications officials have left the administration over the past year, including members of Leavitt’s press team.

Leavitt returned to work earlier this summer after taking maternity leave following the birth of her second child.
