M7.7 Earthquake strikes Indonesia, Tsunami Warnings Issued
Just days after a M7.4 earthquake struck Columbia, another devastating earthquake has struck in Indonesia. Tsunami Early Warnings have been issued for parts of the country, with waves over 3 Meters expected. Preliminary magnitude is expected to be around 7.7, with the epicenter being in the ocean just off the coast of the Flores Region, at an estimated depth of 15km. Aftershocks have occurred, with at least one preliminarily being M6.2.
7:35 AM Update – Tsunami Confirmed
Wave heights of up to 0.94m have been reported, with the 0.94m wave being reported in Maurole-Ende by BMKG, the local Meteorological Organization in Indonesia
8:33 AM Update – Tsunami Warning Expired
At 8:33 AM Local, the Tsunami warning was allowed to expire for the entire region. Impacts from the original earthquake are still being determined, with no casualty figures.
