U.S. Department of War Enhances Force Protection Condition after Unspecified Threat to Military Base Hosting Strategic Bombers

The U.S. Department of War has raised the force protection condition at RAF Fairford in the United Kingdom to FPCON Delta after receiving specific and credible intelligence concerning a threat to the installation, Faytuks Network has learned. The precise nature of the threat was not immediately clear.

Condition “Delta” represents the most restrictive level of the Department of Defense’s force protection system. According to the Pentagon, FPCON Delta applies in an immediate area where a terrorist attack has occurred or when an attack is considered imminent.

Additional military security vehicles were also observed arriving at Fairford on Thursday and Friday, while locals and aircraft spotters reported increased restrictions around portions of the installation earlier in the week. On Saturday, plane spotters reported a noticeable increase in local police activity around RAF Fairford. Satellite imagery reviewed by Faytuks Intel, show that large B-1B contingent remains at the installation, though dispersed across the airfield rather than concentrated.

The base has additionally been operating under several aviation restrictions. Current NOTAM information lists RAF Fairford as open for official business only, while a temporary transponder mandatory zone around the installation is in effect through October. Those notices do not, by themselves, establish a connection to the current security threat.

RAF Fairford’s Role in Iran Conflict

RAF Fairford is a major operating location for U.S. Air Forces in Europe and has been hosting a substantial deployment of B-1B Lancer strategic bombers being used to conduct strikes relating to the war between the United States and Iran.

Aircraft movement records show B-1Bs conducting repeated sorties from Fairford throughout September, including operations involving several aircraft during the past week.

The installation was also the scene of a separate security incident on September 12, when a civilian business jet mistakenly landed at Fairford after apparently confusing the military airfield with nearby Cotswold Airport. The unauthorized landing triggered a response from base security forces. There is no indication the incident is connected to the current threat.
